LactoLycopene formulations
Lycopene is a powerful carotenoid with multiple potential health benefits, and has been researched in areas such as cardiovascular health, prostate health and male fertility.
Lycopene in its natural form is poorly absorbed by the body. In concentrated tomato extracts, a common source of lycopene, lycopene is predominantly found forming crystals; and the crystalline form of carotenoids has been found to be one of the primary factors that reduce bioavailability.
The first human study on LactoLycopene absorption compared the bioavailability of LactoLycopene to that of tomato paste, a highly bioavailable source of lycopene. After 8 weeks of daily supplementation, LactoLycopene increased plasma lycopene concentration by 270%, to similar levels to what was seen with the tomato paste positive control.
This research led the foundation to further explore the benefits of LactoLycopene.
Ateronon Heart+
Ateronon Heart+ combines our patented LactoLycopene with thiamin and selenium, to support a healthy heart. The ‘Tomato Pill’ has benefited from £12 million of research and development, most notably a study at the University of Cambridge NHS Hospital Trust (Addenbrooke’s) which showed taking one capsule of Ateronon Heart daily over eight weeks improved endothelial function by up to 53%.
XY Pro+
XY Pro+ has been formulated to support prostate health. This supplement contains LactoLycopene, a highly absorbable formulation of lycopene. Taking a daily capsule of XY Pro can help boost lycopene levels to an optimum in four to eight weeks.
Fertility+
Fertility+ is a male fertility supplement which has been shown to increase the levels of grade A sperm by 40%. Research at the University of Sheffield showed improvements in the morphology (size and shape) of sperm during the 12 week study. Fertility+ contains a combination of zinc – known to contribute to normal fertility and reproduction – and our patented LactoLycopene formulation.
LactoLycopene and Fertility research
As a potent antioxidant, it has been suggested that lycopene could be a beneficial nutrient for addressing male infertility. LactoLycopene, as a bioavailable source of lycopene, was used in a pilot double-blind placebo-controlled RCT to study the effect on sperm quality in healthy male volunteers (ISRCTN registry: 33248724). In this study, led by Prof. Allan Pacey, volunteers took two capsules of Fertility+ (providing 14mg of lycopene) daily or placebo equivalent for 12 weeks.
At the end of the study, there was a significant increase of 40% in the percentage of fast progressive sperm in the LactoLycopene group when compared to baseline, but this was not seen in the placebo group. Fast progressive sperm are recognised as the most probable sperm to fertilise the egg during pregnancy.
